    It wouldn’t be much of a “Summer Vacation” if you’re stuck in one place, even if it IS moving…

    It would be like spending your Summer either on a 5-week camping trip or travelling around on a cruise ship that never docks anywhere else…

  2. If nothing else this means that they will be ahead of their age group in the area of education without that break, unless it comes into effect once they make planet fall

    • That depends on how much faith you have in the value of kids being institutionalized year round versus the value of their being relatively self-directed for at least part of the time. >_>

  3. A 10-12-week interruption in a child’s education every year has been proven detrimental to them over and over. The only real reason we have such a system is that the soul-crushing heat of summer pretty much makes studying and learning nigh-impossible.

    …At least until we invented air conditioning! ^_^

    Other countries keep the breaks shorter so the kids don’t forget half of what they learned in the previous year, and need to re-adopt all their study habits over again.
